Two Morrow Wins Lead Spartans to Good Friday
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa
(24-9, 12-6 SSC) softball team swept a pair of games with Eckerd
College (27-12, 8-10 SSC) at Turley Complex on Friday evening.
Julia Morrow started game one for the Spartans and claimed dealt
her 20th win of the season. The senior recorded 12 strikeouts in
7.0 shutout innings pitched while allowing four hits.
Lindsay Dring gave Tampa a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as the
senior singled home Meagan Burke. Bre Setree also come around to
score in the inning on a passed ball after reaching on an Eckerd
fielding error giving UT a 2-0 advantage.
The Spartans added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to
take a 3-0 lead on an RBI base hit by Setree to plate Sahrina
Cortes.
The Tampa defense held off a comeback from Eckerd in the bottom of
the inning to take the victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Dring led the offense with three hits in the game while Setree
contributed with two base hits.
Morrow started game two for the Spartans and earned her 21st
victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with 15 strikeouts
while allowing no earned runs on one hit.
Tampa a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as pinch runner Meagan
Brislin came around to score on an Eckerd fielding error.
The Tritons responded in the bottom half of the inning capitalizing
off two Spartan errors to take a 2-1 advantage.
UT answered in the top of the fifth to even the score at 2-2 as
Taylor Collins tripled to begin the frame and came around to score
on a sacrifice fly by Burke.
Tampa broke the tie in the top of the eighth as Dring delivered an
RBI groundout that brought home Cortes for a 3-2 lead. Jenna Halper
followed with a bases loaded infield single extending the Spartan
advantage to 4-2.
Morrow retired the Tritons in order in the bottom of the inning as
the Spartans held on to sweep the doubleheader.

Tampa will return to action April 17 for an SSC matchup at home
against Nova Southeastern University with the game scheduled for 6
