
UT Falls to FIT 5-2 In SSC Opener
Spartans offense stalls against Florida Tech
Melbourne, Fla – The University of Tampa Softball team traveled to Melbourne, Fla to open up conference play as they visited the Florida Tech Panthers.
Unfortunately, the Spartans fell to FIT by a score of 5-2 and now hold a 3-3 overall record and 0-1 in the SSC. Florida Tech now stands with a record of 11-2 overall and 1-0 in conference.
Junior Bre Setree led the offense at the plate as she picked up two hits, a walk, and one RBI on the day. Sophomore Laurie Kostecka also had a solid day batting as she went 2-3 on the afternoon.
Senior Alyssa Bache (1-3) was in the circle for UT as she threw six innings, striking out eight while allowing five runs in the game.
UT had the lead after three innings, up 2-1 as shortstop Sahrina Cortes and pinch runner Nikki Alfano scored in the top of the third. The difference maker in the game was a three run home run by the home team in the bottom of the fifth inning by shortstop Krista Patterson.
FIT starter Rachel Pence (10-0) got the win as she pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits to go along with six strikeouts.
The Spartans will be back in action in an early afternoon doubleheader on Saturday as they wrap up the three game series with the Panthers. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 pm.
