
UT Ready To Face Lynn In Home Opener
Spartans Will Look To Bounce Back In SSC Play
TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa Softball team will host the Lynn University Fighting Knights for a three game series that begins on Friday at 6 p.m. for the Spartans home-opener and wraps up with an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday. The Spartans are hoping to bounce back from their first Sunshine State Conference series against Florida Tech last weekend and move up the standings. Tampa currently has a 3-5 overall record and 0-3 in SSC play.
For the Spartans, junior Bre Setree leads the offense with a .423 batting average, scoring four runs to go with three RBI as well as hitting the team's first home run of the year. The pitching duo of Alyssa Bache and Makaleigh Dooley have also contributed on offense as they have eight and three RBIs respectively, with Alyssa leading the team in that category.
Lynn is coming off a three game series against the Florida Southern College Mocs, dropping the first two games and seeing the final game postponed due to darkness. The Fighting Knights overall record is 5-9 and they are 0-2 in conference play.
Opposite UT, Lynn's offense is led by junior Leanne Wright, who is batting .320 after 14 games played. In those 14 games, Wright has accounted for eight runs and 11 RBI. In the circle, the Knights are led by Katelyn Key. The junior pitcher has thrown three complete games for a total of 33 innings. In those appearances, Key has allowed 19 runs for a 3.18 ERA.
Overall, Tampa holds a 37-19 record against Lynn and have won the last four series between the two schools going back to 2011-2012.
