
Spartans Come Out Victorious in Home Opener
Freshman Cristina Clauberg leads the offense during first home game
TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa softball team came out victorious over the Lynn University Fighting Knights in its home opener on Friday evening by a final score of 3-1. The Spartans improve their record to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. In the meantime, the Fighting Knights fall to 5-10 on the season and 0-3 in SSC.
Senior Alyssa Bache (2-4) made her sixth start of the season and earned the win. She pitched a strong game, going all six innings, as she allowed only four hits and one run while striking out eight and tossing 2 walks.
In the meantime, the Fighting Knights went with Katelyn Key (3-2) as their starter. The senior pitcher also went the full game, allowing three runs on five hits, but only managing one strikeout on the night with two walks.
Leading the offense for UT was freshman Cristina Clauberg. The left fielder had one hit on the night to go along with one walk as well as one RBI for the game. Also contributing on the offensive side were right fielder Kelsey Humphrey and shortstop Sahrina Cortes. Humphrey and Cortes had solid nights at the plate as they both went 1-for-2 batting and scoring a run each for the Spartans.
Tampa will be back in action tomorrow as it takes the field for a Saturday doubleheader to wrap up the series against Lynn. The first game of the day is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
