
Tampa Set to Host Saint Leo for SSC Series
Spartans looking to bounce back from tough weekend against PBA
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team is back from a three-game road trip and are set to host the fourth-ranked Saint Leo University Lions at the Naimoli Family Softball Field for a three-game conference series. The Spartans will enter the series with a 13-14 overall record and are 5-7 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Lions are 31-1 overall and 14-1 in SSC play.
Tampa will look to bounce back after dropping the three games on the road at Palm Beach Atlantic in a regional matchup.
Offensively, the Spartans are led by sophomore Sahrina Cortes, who leads the team with a .384 batting average and leads the team with 17 runs scored. Junior Bre Setree leads the team with 15 RBI on the season and is second with 28 hits. Freshman Makaleigh Dooley leads the team in pitching with a 2.47 ERA in 15 games. Senior Alyssa Bache is second on the team with a 2.63 ERA while having an 8-6 record. Bache has racked up 113 strikeouts in 98.2 innings of work.
Saint Leo is coming off hosting Flagler College for a Friday doubleheader. The Lions manage to win game one by a final score of 2-0 and exploded offensively in the second game winning 10-1 in 5 innings.
Stephanie Adkins leads the Lions in pitching with a 0.45 ERA and a 14-1 record on the season with 112 strikeouts and 44 hits given up so far. Offensively Rachael Heath leads the way with a .429 AVG and has scored 32 runs in 30 games. Senior Tiffany Thompson is second on the team with a .418 AVG and 29 runs scored while leading the team with 46 hits.
UT trails in the all-time series between the two programs 44-52. The two teams met last year in a three-game series with Saint Leo taking two of the three games.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Softball Field and the series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
