
Spartans and Tritons Set to Face Off
Tampa will host Eckerd College for a three game conference series
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team will host the Eckerd Tritons for a three game SSC matchup at the Naimoli Family Softball Field. The Spartans will enter the series with a 13-17 overall record and are 5-10 in conference play. The Tritons hold a record of 24-18-1 on the season and are 8-9 in SSC play.
Tampa will look to bounce back from a tough outing in their last series against No. 4 Saint Leo University
On offense, sophomore Sahrina Cortes leads the team with a .358 batting average and leads the team with 17 runs scored. Junior Bre Setree is tied for the team lead with 15 RBI on the season and is second with 30 hits. Senior Alyssa Bache leads the team in pitching with a 2.28 ERA in 20 appearances. Bache has pitched in 113.2 innings while striking out 126 batters. Freshman Makaleigh Dooley is second on the team with a 2.59 ERA in 16 appearances as she has 68 strikeouts on the year.
Eckerd hosted Florida Tech last weekend for a three game series. The Tritons dropped two of three against the Panthers with the lone win being 3-2 in the second game of the series. Florida Tech won the first game 4-0 and the final game 7-5.
Nikole Van Gennep leads Eckerd in both hitting and pitching. The freshman currently has a .322 AVG in 41 games played. In the 41 games, Gennep has scored 19 runs and has 16 RBI. Kaycie Duncan and Carrie Shere are second and third on the team with .320 AVG and .300 AVG respectively. They are tied for the team lead in RBI with 27 each while Shere leads the team with seven home runs on the season and 28 runs scored. In the circle, Gennep has a 14-12 record with 20 complete games and a 1.54 ERA. She has pitched a total of 172.2 innings in her 31 appearances with 62 runs given up.
UT leads in the all-time series between the two programs 75-17. The two teams met last year in a three-game series that the Spartans swept as they won by scores of 4-1, 3-0, and 4-2 in eight innings.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Softball Field on Friday and the series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
