TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team hosted the Rollins College Tars for the opening game of the three-game series. The Spartans shutout the Tars 2-0 to hand Coach Kanter her 600th career victory. Coach Kanter becomes just the third SSC coach to reach the 600 win mark joining Florida Southern's Chris Bellotto and Rollins own Michelle Frew.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bott. 2nd: Shelby Press started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Taylor Farrell. Emalee Jansen advanced the runners over with a sacrifice bunt that almost got past the rushing first baseman. Erica Matich was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to load the bases. With two outs on the board, Cristina Clauberg drew another walk to bring a run home as Tampa opened the scoring.
Bott. 4th: Matich singled down the left field line with one out and moved to second on a single by Sahrina Cortes to left field. With two outs on the board, Dooley singled to center field and Coach Kanter waved Matich home to make the score 2-0 as she was able to slide in under the tag.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley tossed 78 pitches, with 54 going for strikes.
- Shelby Pressed finished the game going 1-2 with one run scored.
- The final out of the night came on a popup to shortstop as Clauberg secured the win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans extended their streak of games with at least one walk to seven.
- Tampa has now stolen five bases this season.
- UT snapped the Tars four-game winning streak.
UP NEXT:
The team will return to the field tomorrow afternoon as they close out the series against the Tars with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
