Spartans Notch Comeback Victory Over Panthers
After trailing 1-0, Tampa scored four times in the 4th inning to claim the win
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team was on the road to resume their conference slate as they traveled to Melbourne, Fla. to visit Florida Tech. The two teams opened the three-game series with an early afternoon game. Tampa came back from a 1-0 deficit to win the game 4-1 over FIT.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bott. 2nd: The home side scored a run in their half of the inning to open the scoring over Tampa.
Top. 4th: Emily Proffitt hit a one-out double to left field and was followed by Emalee Jansen who drew a four-pitch walk. Erica Matich was able to reach on a fielders choice as Proffitt was out on the play at third. Jansen came around to score on a single by Lauren Reyes down the left field line and Reyes was able to advance to second on the throw home. Sahrina Cortes drew the second walk of the inning on a full count to load the bases with two outs. Shelby Press then gave Tampa the lead with a single to the shortstop that deflected off the fielder's glove that allowed Reyes and Matich to score. Dooley helped herself out by adding one more run for UT on a single.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley tossed 104 pitches, with 72 going for strikes.
- Cortes, Dooley, and Proffitt all recorded a double in the game.
- The two teams combined for 15 runners left on base.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have drawn 31 walks this season with 17 being in SSC play.
- Tampa has now scored 55 runs.
- UT extended FIT's winless start to conference play to four games.
UP NEXT:
The team will return to the field tomorrow afternoon as they close out the series against the Panthers with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
