UT Softball Set to Host Pair of Afternoon Doubleheaders
Spartans welcome in pair of out-of-state opponents.
TAMPA, Fla. – Winners of four of its last five games, the University of Tampa softball team is set to host a pair of out-of-state foes on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.
The Matchup: Tampa vs. Southwest Minnesota State, Tampa vs. Chestnut Hill
Date/Time: Tuesday at 2 p.m. (DH), Wednesday at 2 p.m. (DH)
Records: Tampa (10-9), Southwest Minnesota State (4-4), Chestnut Hill (0-0)

About the Spartans: UT is coming off a Sunshine State Conference series where it took two of three at Florida Tech. Junior pitcher Makaleigh Dooley has been a workhouse on the mound as the ace has started 12 games while appearing in 17 of the 19 UT games. Dooley is 9-7 on the year with a 1.92 ERA. In 105.2 innings, she has fanned 92 hitters. The outfield duo of Shelby Press and Sahrina Cortes continue to lead the Spartans at the plate, hitting .328 and .303 respectively. Freshman Bailey Phillips is hitting .346 to lead the Spartans while classmate Emily Proffitt is hitting .474 with nine hits in 19 at bats. Press is joined by teammates Dooley and Maddie Farrell as team leaders with eight RBI apiece.
About the Mustangs: Southwest Minnesota State split a pair of Sunday games at Eckerd, falling 9-1 and defeating the Tritons 1-0. The same two teams meet for a single game on Monday before the Mustangs head across the bridge to meet the Spartans. Kali Tomlinson and Emma Grote lead the team with a .391 batting average as Madison Krog is hitting .381. Shelby Crank is 3-1 on the season with a 2.26 ERAto lead the Mustangs.
About the Griffins: Chestnut Hill is set to open its season on Monday at Florida Southern and meets Southeastern on Tuesday before the matchup with Tampa.
