
Maddie Farrell Leads Spartans to Series Win Over Lynn
The sophomore catcher hit a double, triple and recorded 3 RBI
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team wrapped up a big series against the Lynn University Fighting Knights with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader. LU took advantage of two two-run innings to take game one 4-2 over UT.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):
Final: Tampa 2 (L: Sam Kaye 2-3), Lynn 4 (W: Jameston 7-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bott. 2nd: Maddie Farrell hit a single to right-center field with one away and moved to second when Taylor Farrell hit a single to left field. Emalee Jansen doubled to left-center field to drive in M.Farrell and give Tampa the lead.
Top 3rd: The Fighting Knights put up a pair of runs in the third inning to take the lead over the Spartans.
Bott. 4th: M.Farrell again was involved as she singled to center field and made it safely to second on a throwing error by the Lynn centerfielder. Mackenzie Allen pinch ran for Farrell and came around to score with two outs on the board as T.Farrell doubled down the left field line to tie the game.
Top 5th: The visitors scored two more times to re-take the lead from Tampa at 4-2.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Farrell sisters combined to go 4/6 at the plate with T.Farrell adding the RBI and M.Farrell recording a run.
- Three different Spartans recorded a double in the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Tampa has drawn a walk in seven straight games.
- UT has drawn as many walks (44) as they have recorded RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bott. 1st: Sahrina Cortes singled to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cristina Clauberg. Dooley stepped up to the plate and got Tampa on the board first as she sent a missile up the left field line past the diving third baseman that allowed Cortes to score.
Bott. 3rd: Cortes singled through the left side and again moved to second on another sacrifice bunt by Clauberg. Dooley then moved Cortes over to third on a groundout to second base. A bouncing ball to the shortstop by Bailey Phillips scored Cortes to make it 2-0 and Phillips herself came in to score one batter later as M.Farrell tripled to left-center field that made it 3-0.
Bott. 5th: Dooley reached on a fielder's choice as Tampa got a brief run rally started with two out. Phillips singled to right field as the ball dropped between the right fielder and second baseman and Dooley made it all the way to third on the play. M.Farrell doubled to left-center for her second big hit of the game as both runners came in to score.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Cortes finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
- Dooley went the full game in the circle, throwing 88 pitches and having 67 strikes.
- M.Farrell finished 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, and three RBI.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Tampa has scored an even 80 runs in 26 games.
UP NEXT:
Tampa will hit the road next weekend for the first of three trips to South Florida. The Spartans visit the Nova Southeastern University Sharks who are coming off a series against the Saint Leo Lions. Friday night's opening game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
