Press Double Leads UT to Third Straight Win Over Barry
Shelby Press drove in the winning run while Dooley notched her 6th game with double-figure strikeouts

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team visited the Barry Buccaneers on Thursday night and came away with a close 2-1 victory over the Bucs as Tampa scored in the top of the 7th and closed the game out in the bottom half of the inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Top 4th: Bailey Phillips drew a walk to open the inning and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Farrell. Emalee Jansen put runners on the corner with just one out with a single through the right side. Taylor Farrell doubled to center field to score Phillips and give Tampa the lead.
Bott. 4th: The home side came back and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Top 7th: The Spartans were able to score the winning run in the top of the inning as Sahrina Cortes reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman with two away that allowed Cortes to make it all the way to second base. A wild pitch allowed her to move 60 feet away from giving her team the lead and Shelby Press doubled to center-field to drive her in for the would-be game-winning run.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- T.Farrell, Press, and Lauren Reyes all notched a double in the game.
- Dooley threw 113 pitches with 85 going for strikes.
- The two teams combined for 13 runners left on base.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Dooley is now up to 179 strikeouts this season.
- The Spartans have 99 runs and 93 RBI.
UP NEXT:
The team will be back on the field tomorrow afternoon as they wrap up the series against the Bucs with a doubleheader slated to start at noon.
