Tampa Softball Stays Hot in Shutout of Mocs
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team won its fifth straight game with a shutout over visiting Florida Southern College to take the two-game Sunshine State Conference series over the Mocs.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final Score: University of Tampa Spartans 2, Florida Southern College Moccasins 0
Records: Tampa (15-4, 13-3 SSC), Florida Southern (7-14, 6-11 SSC)
Location: Naimoli Family Field | Tampa, Fla.
All-time Series: Florida Southern leads the all-time series, 74-49. The Spartans have enjoyed recent success, winning nine of the last 12 meetings over the Mocs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Tampa did all of its scoring in the first inning, following a Crisitna Clauberg walked. Clauberg would then score on an RBI double by Mariah Galhouse. The second run of the game would come on a base hit by Corynn Miner. Bottom 1 | 2-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- UT had a hit from Stephanie Balmer, Galhouse and Miner.
- Galhouse tossed a three-hit shutout in the circle, improving to 8-1 on the season as she also tallied four strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The Spartans now sit second in the SSC, one game behind Rollins College.
UP NEXT: Tampa travels to Fort Lauderdale for a Friday afternoon meeting with the Sharks at 4 p.m. The same teams will then meet for a Sunday doubleheader in Tampa at 2 p.m.
