Spartan Offense Erupts to Salvage Doubleheader Split With Ursuline
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team split with their second opponent of the season, the Ursuline College Arrows in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Game One Final: Tampa 2, Ursuline 6
Game Two Final: Tampa 6, Ursuline 0

All-time Series: The Tampa Spartans continue to hold a 6-1 lead in the all-time series after a first loss this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- It was a scoreless game until Ursuline scored two runs in the top of the third inning from a single to left field. Top 3 l 2-0 Ursuline
- With a runner on, an error by the Spartan infield led to an unearned run by the Arrows. Top 3 l 3-0 Ursuline
- The Tampa Spartans answered back in the bottom of the third, adding one run on the board. Mariah Galhouse was able to hit a single to center field and advance to second on a throw, as was the runners Lauren Fantone who advanced to third, and Devin Hammonds who scored home. Bottom 3 | 3-1 Ursuline
- The Arrows scored another run off of a triple to left field. Top 4 l 4-1 Ursuline
- Ursuline scored once more in the fourth off of a single to center field. Top 4 l 5-1 Ursuline
- One more run was scored from Mackenzie Allen, who took advantage from a fielding error by the shortstop after Abigail Siegel reached first. Bottom 6 | 5-2 Ursuline
- The Arrows scored once more when the runner was batted in off of a double. Top 7 l 6-2 Ursuline
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:
- Corynn Miner split the mound in the top of the fourth inning with Kate DeSimone.
- Miner faced a total of 20 batters, striking out 2 hitters and giving up 9 hits and 5 runs.
- Desimone faced a total 14 batters, ending the game with 37 strikes, out of 51 pitches.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- Avery Perkins reached first on base on an error which gave Lexie Chevalier the opportunity to be the very first run on the board, unearned. Bottom 2 | 1-0 Tampa
- The Spartans added another run in the fourth inning when Alissa Carfora singled to left field, scoring Savannah Miller. Bottom 4 l 2-0 Tampa
- Stephanie Balmer singled to the right field, bringing home Lilly Kiester and Emalee Jansen. Bottom 4 l 4-0 Tampa
- Jansen contributed to the earned runs by hitting a single down the right-field line and scoring Miranda Perez. Bottom 5 l 5-0 Tampa
- Miner singled and advanced to second, scoring Kylie Siwek home as the last run of the game. Bottom 6 | 6-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:
- Jansen hit 2-for-3 with an RBI
- Galhouse earned her first win of the season (1-0) and hit 1-for-3 at the plate.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- This was the seventh meeting between Tampa and Ursuline.
- Tampa's pitching had 7 strikeouts on the day and a total of 20 hits.
UP NEXT: The Spartans travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on the Valdosta State Blazers and the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks for a Friday and Saturday doubleheader against South Region opponents. The first game starts at 4:00 p.m and the second at 6:30 p.m.
