Tampa Eviscerates Valdosta State and Auburn-Montgomery’s Undefeated Records in DH

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team went up against Valdosta State and Auburn-Montgomery University in a doubleheader Friday afternoon, coming away with a pair of victories against nationally-ranked regional opponents.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game One Final: Tampa 2, No. 7 Valdosta State 1

Game Two Final: Tampa 5, No. 14 Auburn-Montgomery 3

Records: University of Tampa Spartans (4-2), Valdosta State University Blazers (5-1), Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks (4-1)

Location: Radiology Associates Field | Daytona Beach, Fla.

All-time Series: Tampa trails 32-11 against Valdosta State, winning the last four matchups. However, this was Tampa and Auburn-Montgomery's first matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:

• In the top of the second inning, Blazer's Gano singled.
• The Blazers got on the scoreboard after Blazer's Lewis hit a double to left-center, sending Gano, who was already in a scoring position, home | Bottom 2nd 1-0 (Blazers)
• In the fourth inning, Lauren Fantone singled to start off the inning.
• Right after this, Mariah Galhouse stepped to the plate. After hitting a foul ball, Galhouse then hit a two-run home run to clear the bases | Bottom 4th 2-1 (Spartans)
• In the seventh, with one man in scoring position, Blazer's Tosone was caught trying to steal third base for the third and final out.

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:

• Galhouse gave up no hits from the fourth to the sixth inning
• Galhouse; 2-3, 2HR, two RBI's
• Spartans had three stolen bases from Balmer, Chevalier, and Russo

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:

• Auburn-Montgomery's Yevak started off the game walking Stephanie Balmer. Yevak would then proceed four runs and five straight hits before a pitching change | Bottom 1st 4-0 (Tampa).
• Pitching now for Auburn-Montgomery was Dickerson and she instantly gave up an RBI single to Avery Perkins, allowing Lexie Chevalier to score | Bottom 1st 5-0 (Tampa).
• The game would go scoreless, until the sixth inning with Auburn-Montgomery trying to make a comeback. Corynn Miner gave up a walk and a single to put two men on base and one man in scoring position.
• The very next play, Auburn-Montgomery's Aycock hits a triple scoring both men on base | Top 6th 5-2 (Tampa).
• A single to right field by Auburn-Montgomery's Cobb would score Aycock and the Blazers would now trail by two | Top 6th 5-3 (Tampa).
• Miner stayed in and closed out the sixth and pitched a shutout inning to seal the deal.

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:

• Alexa Russo; 2-3, RBI
• Miner; 7IP 4KO's, 5H, 3R, BB
• All five Spartans who had RBI's scored as well.
• Balmer was left on base three times

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Mariah Galhouse is the player of the game
• Spartans gave both Valdosta and Auburn-Montgomery their first losses on the season
• Spartans now have a two-game winning streak
