Tampa Takes Series Matchup Versus Ranked Opponents
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team went up against Auburn University at Montgomery and Valdosta State University in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Game One Final: No. 14 Auburn-Montgomery 3, Tampa 0
Game Two Final: Tampa 3, No. 7 Valdosta State 2
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (5-3), Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks (4-1), Valdosta State University Blazers (5-1)
Location: Radiology Associates Field | Daytona Beach, Fla.
All-time Series: Tampa holds a 1-0 lead over Auburn-Montgomery. Meanwhile, Valdosta State holds a 32-11 lead over Tampa, losing the last four.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- Tampa started the game as the away team, with a single by Mariah Galhouse. The Spartans left two men on base before ending the half inning.
- Galhouse would pitch again for the Spartans, only this time it would be a different result. Galhouse struggled in the bottom of the first, allowing two men on base before giving up a three-run home run to the Warhawks' Gia Martin | Bottom 1st 3-0 (Warhawks).
- In the second, Warhawks' Alex Howard was struck by a pitch thrown by Galhouse. Galhouse would close out the inning before Mary Beth Feldman would come in as a relief pitcher; she would pitch the remainder of the game
- From the fourth to the sixth inning, the Spartans would collect a total of three hits, but still no runs | Top 6th 3-0 (Warhawks).
- Going into the top of the seventh, the Spartans' demeanor changed as it was their last chance of coming back into the game.
- The Spartans would hit two consecutive singles to have two runners on first and second base.
- The Spartans would sub in two pinch runners to ensure the chances of men on base to score.
- A groundout would advance the pinch runners Savannah Miller and Mackenzie Allen to second and third base.
- However, another and a lineout would eliminate the Spartans' chances of a comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- Savannah Miller singled to right field for the first hit to start off the Spartans' offense.
- The Blazers got their first hit by Proctor in the top of third.
- In the fourth, Miner got on base with a slash single to left field.
- Miller would then hit a single, advancing Miner to second base. Lexie Chevalier hit a clutch triple to right field reeling in two RBI's. | Bottom 4th 2-0 (Tampa)
- The Blazers in the seventh got their act together and tied up the game with the help of Blazers' Sulte hit a two-run shot to deep to right-center field | Top 7th 2-2
- Tampa retaliated the next half-inning withAvery Perkins setting the tone with a single past the shortstop. Perkins would then steal second base.
- Valdosta State's pitcher, Richard would walk Miranda Perez and Balmer to load up the bases. Richard proceeded to walk Miner which allowed Perkins to score the walk-off run | Bottom 7th 3-2 (Tampa).

BEYOND THE BOX:
- Miner; third complete game of the season, three-game hitting streak
- Chevalier's HR makes it the second-team HR of the season
- Tampa won three out of their four games this weekend
