
No. 3 Spartans Complete Sweep of SSC Rival Florida Southern
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 3 University of Tampa softball team picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting Florida Southern College to hand the rival Mocs a three-game Sunshine State Conference series sweep.

All-time Series: The Mocs continue to lead the all-time series by a 77-58 mark, but the Spartans have won 11 straight over Florida Southern.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Camryn Wineinger drove home the first Spartan run of the day, scoring Lauren Fantone on a single. Bottom 1 | 1-0 Tampa
- Florida Southern tied the game on an unearned run. Top 4 | 1-1 Tie
- A two-run double off the bat of shortstop Stephanie Balmer put UT on top for good. Kate DeSimone and Lexie Chevalier each scored on the extra-base hit. Bottom 4 | 3-1 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Fantone reached base three times, with a hit and two walks.
- Chevalier and Balmer each had a double for the Spartans.
- Alexa Russo added a hit for UT.
- Freshman Gwen McGinnis started in the circle and stayed perfect at 4-0 with the complete game victory. She would finish with four strikeouts while walking no Mocs.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- A perfect 9-0 in the SSC, UT is the lone undefeated league team as both St. Leo and Nova Southeastern have two losses apiecew.
- Through 22 games, the Spartans have scored 166 runs this season. The 2022 UT squad scored 175 runs in 51 games. The school record for runs in a season is 244 in 1993.
- The Spartans have now won 11 consecutive SSC contests.
- UT is a perfect 14-0 at home this season.
UP NEXT: Tampa travels to Nova Southeastern for a three-game SSC series with the Sharks. A Friday game at 6 p.m., will be followed by a 12 p.m., doubleheadder on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale.
