
Spartans Win Fourth Straight SSC Series
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 3 University of Tampa softball team sweeps Nova Southeastern on Saturday to win their fourth straight SSC series.

Game One Final: #3 Tampa 8, Nova Southeastern 6

Records: Tampa 23-2 (11-1 SSC), Nova Southeastern 24-9 (8-4 SSC)

All-time Series: The Spartans have snapped their 5-game skid against the Sharks and improved their overall record to 37-25 over Nova Southeastern.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- Tampa started the first inning with a bang, smacking the ball all over the yard. Avery Perkins had an RBI single to center field followed by two back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Lexie Chevalier and Kate DeSimone, and then Stephanie Balmer hit a rope to left field to bring home two runs. Top 1 | 5-0 Tampa
- After Nova Southeastern scored one in the first and five in the second, the Spartans caught a break with a Sharks fielding error to bring home Mariah Galhouse to tie the game. Top 3 | 6-6 Tie
- Tampa caught another break with another shark fielding error to bring home Lauren Fantone and take the lead. Top 4 | 7-6 Tampa
- Alexa Russo gave the Spartans a huge insurance home run! Top 6 | 8-6 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:
- Freshman Gwen McGinnis received her fifth win in the circle this season. She is now 5-0. She came into relief after Mary Beth Feldman struggled at her start. McGinnis pitched all 2 innings, striking out 3; while allowing 2 runs, 5 hits, and 2 walks.
- Senior Galhouse received her third save on the season. She went 3.2 innings, striking out 2 while allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, and 0 walks.
- Balmer: 2-4 & 2 RBI
- DeSimone: 2-2, 1BB, & 1 RBI
- Chevalier: 0-3, 1 R, 2 RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- After scoreless action in the first two innings, Tampa received a run on the board from a Galhouse groundball that was fielded cleanly from the shortstop to bring home Balmer. Top 3 | 1-0 Tampa
- Camryn Wineinger would give the Spartans some insurance runs with a -run double to left field to bring home Galhouse and Balmer. Top 5 | 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:
- Sophomore DeSimone received her third win in the circle this season. She is now 3-0. She came into relief after Galhouse started. DeSimone pitched 4.1 innings, striking out 4 while allowing 0 runs, 3 hits, and 3 walks.
- Balmer: 2-2, 2 R, & 1 BB
- Galhouse: 2-4, 1 R, & 1 RBI
- Wineinger: 1-3 & 2 RBI
