Spartans Take Game One Over Rollins

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 2 University of Tampa softball team takes game one of their weekend series in Winter Park over Rollins.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game Final: #2 Tampa Spartans 4, Rollins Tars 2

Records:  Tampa 24-2 (12-1 SSC), Rollins 23-12 (7-9 SSC)

Location: Rollins Softball Stadium at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park | Winter Park, Fl.

All-time Series: The Spartans have won 4 straight, 5-5 in their last 10, and are 67-52 against the Tars.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• After the first two innings were scoreless, Tampa put a crooked number on the board to break the scoreless tie in the top of the third. Lilly Kiester reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Stephanie Balmer, followed by a Mariah Galhouse sacrifice fly to get home Lauren Fantone, and then Camryn Wineinger hit a double to left field to bring home Kiester. Top 3 | 3-0 Tampa
• The Spartans caught a break in the top of the sixth. Avery Perkins hit a ground ball back to the pitcher; however, the pitcher spiked the ball in the dirt, which got passed the first baseman, and Abigail Siegel came in to score. Top 6 | 4-0 Tampa
• The Tars would score two in the bottom half of the seventh. Bot 7 | 4-2 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Senior Galhouse received her ninth win in the circle this season. She is now 9-2, pitching in 6.1 innings, striking out 4; while allowing 2 runs, 7 hits, and 0 walks.
• Freshman Gwen McGinnis received her second save on the season. She recorded the last two outs of the game.
• Wineinger: 1-2, 1 HBP,  & 1 RBI
• Kiester: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 R, & 1 RBI

UP NEXT: The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow as they finish their six straight road game with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM and then game 3 at 2:00 PM.
