Spartans Sweep Lynn for Fortieth Win

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 1 University of Tampa softball team sweeps Lynn for their first-ever 40-win season.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game One Final: #1 Tampa 7, Lynn 1

Game Two Final: #1 Tampa 5, Lynn 2

Records:  Tampa 40-3 (28-2 SSC), Lynn 21-31 (9-21 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:

• The Spartans would get on the board in the opening frame. Avery Perkins would hit an RBI double in the gap to bring home Lauren Fantone for the game's first run. Lexie Chevalier would then follow with an RBI single to score Camryn Wineinger for a crooked number on the board in the first for Tampa. Mid 1 | 2-0 Tampa
• Tampa would follow with another two runs in the top of the second. Mariah Galhouse would find a hole in the infield to bring home Kate DeSimone. Later in the inning, Fantone would score on a wild pitch. Mid 2 | 4-0 Tampa
• The Spartans would follow with three sacrifice flies from Fantone in the fourth and Chevalier and Caroline Watson in the fifth. Mid 5 | 7-0 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:

• Freshman Gwen McGinnis received her tenth win in the circle this season. She is now 10-0. McGinnis pitched 5 innings, striking out 6; while allowing 1 run on 5 hits.
• DeSimone came into relief pitching in 2 innings, striking out 2; while allowing no runs on 2 hits.
• Perkins: 2-4, R, & RBI
• Chevalier: 1-3 & 2 RBI
• Fantone: 1-1, 2 R, 2 BB & RBI

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:

• Galhouse would start the Spartan's hitting with a two-run double. Mid 1 | 2-0 Tampa
• Wineinger would smash her sixth home run of the year, this one courtesy of a two-run shot. Mid 3 | 4-0 Tampa
• DeSimone would hit a sacrifice fly for the Spartan's fifth run of the game. Mid 5 | 5-2 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:

• Senior Mary Beth Feldman received her twelfth win in the circle this season. She is now 12-0. Feldman pitched 7 innings, striking out 5, allowing 2 runs, and 3 hits.
• Wineinger: 2-3, 2 R, BB, & 2 RBI
• Perkins: 2-4 & 2 R
• Galhouse: 2-4 & RBI
• Stephanie Balmer: 2-3
