Spartans Score Four Unanswered to Complete Sixteen Inning Comeback

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• After the Chargers scored three in the first, the Spartans mounted their slow comeback with a sacrifice fly from Mariah Galhouse to bring home Lauren Fantone for Tampa's first run to cut their deficit to two. | 3-1 Alabama-Huntsville, End 3rd 

• Caroline Watson would cut the Spartan's deficit to one with a one-out RBI single to center field to bring home Mackenzie Allen. | 3-2 Alabama-Huntsville, End 6th 

• With the Spartans down one with their last chance to score, Tampa wouldn't shy away from crunch time. Galhouse would lead off the inning with a walk and would advance to second on a Charger's wild pitch. Wineinger would then follow with a rope up the middle to tie the game up at three. | 3-3 Tie, End 7th 

• After nine innings of scoreless action and numerous scoring opportunities for the Spartans, Galhouse delivered once again with a double to left field to bring home Stephanie Balmer. | 4-3 Tampa, Final 

INSIDE THE STATS: 

• Senior Galhouse started in the circle for the Spartans. After giving up three runs in the first, she showed why she is a First-Team conference pitcher. Galhouse pitched 8 innings, striking out 2, allowing 3 runs (1 Earned), 2 walks, and 5 hits. 

• Freshman Gwen McGinnis showed why she is one of the top Freshman arms in the nation. McGinnis pitched 8 innings, striking out 7, allowing 0 runs, and 4 hits. 

• Galhouse: 3-7 (BB), R, & 2 RBI 

• Perkins: 3-6 

• Wineinger: 3-7 (BB) 

• Balmer: 3-7 & R 

• Kiester: 2-6 (BB) 

• Chevalier: 2-6

The Spartans will await the winner of Mississippi College and Alabama Huntsville for the South Regional Championship of the NCAA Tournament. That game will be played tomorrow Saturday, May 13th at 2 pm.
