Spartans Come up Short in Super Regional Final

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 1 University of Tampa Softball Team falls in a win-or-go-home super regional final to Nova Southeastern.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game One Final: #1 Tampa 3, #3 Nova Southeastern 0

Game Two Final: #3 Nova Southeastern 2, #1 Tampa 0

Records:  Tampa 44-5 (28-2 SSC), Nova Southeastern 43-14 (22-8 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:

  • Kate DeSimone would put a ball on the ground to the Shark's shortstop, fourtanetly a throwing error would bring home Lexie Chevalier. | 1-0 Tampa, Mid 2nd
  • Once again, the Shark's defensive struggles brought the Spartan's second run. Devin Hammonds would score. | 2-0 Tampa, Mid 6th
  • Avery Perkins would give Tampa an insurance run with a double to left field to bring home Mariah Galhouse. | 3-0 Tampa, Mid 7th

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:

  • Freshman Gwen McGinnis received her twelfth win in the circle this season. She is now 12-0. McGinnis pitched 5.2 innings, striking out 4, while allowing no runs on 7 hits.
  • DeSimone came into relief pitching 1.1 innings, striking out 3; while allowing no runs on a hit and a walk.
