TAMPA, Fla. - No. 4 Tampa Spartans beat the No. 20 Wilmington Wildcats in an exciting two game series.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE:

  • Tampa got on the board first in the third inning with a solo home run by Megan deVilliers and a double by Kinnah Kreidler that drove in another run. Wilmington responded in the fourth inning with a two-run single by Hannah Parks to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The score remained tied until the eighth inning when Sam Freeland of Wilmington drove in a run on a fielder's choice to give his team a 3-2 lead. However, Tampa answered back in the bottom of the eighth with a fielder's choice by Mariah Galhouse that brought in the tying run.
  • The game remained deadlocked until the 11th inning when Galhouse of Tampa reached on a fielder's choice and drove in the winning run, securing the 4-3 victory for Tampa.

INSIDE THE STATS:

  • Kate DeSimone pitched 7.1 innings and allowing three runs, recording five strikeouts.
  • Gwen McGinnis earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, recording five strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO:

  • The game started off with Wilmington taking an early lead in the first inning
  • Tampa quickly responded with a four-run inning highlighted by triples from Kinnah Kreidler and Camryn Wineinger. Tampa continued to add to their lead throughout the game.
  • Tampa's Wineinger and Galhouse led the charge with multiple hits and RBIs.

INSIDE THE STATS:

  • Galhouse pitched all 6.0 innings for Tampa, strikingout four batters, only allowing one run. She went 3-4 at-bat while recording three RBIs.
  • Wineinger 2-4 at-bat with two RBIs.

UP NEXT: Tampa will host the Southwest Minnesota State Univerity Mustangs in a two game series at home March 9th, 2024.
