Tampa Places Three on SSC Women’s Basketball Silver Anniversary Team
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced its women's basketball Silver Anniversary Team, naming a total of 15 student-athletes and one coach from six different institutions to the list. Former UT standouts Crystal Ashley, Kim Dix and April Lindsey were among the honorees.
Voting for the squad, which recognizes the conference's first 25 years of competition in the sport of women's basketball, was conducted among the athletic directors at each of the SSC's nine member institutions. Although the SSC was founded as a men's basketball conference prior to the 1975-76 season, women's basketball was added as a championship sport in the 1981-82 academic year.
Ashley, who played forward for the Spartans from 1991-95 was a 1994 WBCA All-American and 1995 WBCA All-American. She was also selected as a 1994 First-Team All-South Region, 1993 First-Team All-SSC, 1994 First-Team All-SSC, 1995 First-Team All-SSC and 1992 SSC All-Freshman Team choice. She finished her career with 1,610 points, 663 career field goals made, a .612 career field goal percentage and 1,025 career rebounds. She ranks 3rd in UT career scoring (1,610), 3rd in UT career FG Made (663), 1st in UT career FG Percentage (.612), 6th in UT career FT Made (284), 3rd in UT career rebounds (1,025) and 3rd in SSC rebounds. Ashley is also one of four players in UT history to be named All-American and one of three players in UT history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Dix, who was a two-sport star in women's basketball and volleyball, attended UT from 1988-92. She was selected as a 1991 AWSF All-American and 1992 AWSF All-American. Dix was also named 1991 First-Team All-SSC, 1992 First-Team All-SSC and 1990 Second-Team All-SSC. She concluded her Tampa career with 1,487 points, 552 field goals made, a .534 field goal percentage, 835 career rebounds and 507 points in 1991-92. She currently ranks 6th in UT career scoring (1,487), 7th in UT career FG Made (552), 6th in UT career FG Percentage (.534), 1st in UT career FT Made (377) and 5th in UT career rebounds (835). She is also one of four players in UT history to be named All-American. A member of the UT Athletics Hall of Fame, Dix is also in the SSC Hall of Fame. This marks her second selection as she was also named to SSC Silver Anniversary Volleyball Team.
Lindsey, a forward for UT from 1993-97, was also a 1996 WBCA All-American. She was also named 1996 First-Team All-South Region, 1996 First-Team All-SSC, 1995 Second-Team All-SSC, 1997 Second-Team All-SSC and 1993 SSC All-Freshman Team. She left UT with 1,364 career points, 1,064 career rebounds and 276 career steals. She ranks 9th in UT career scoring (1,364), 2nd in UT career rebounds (1,064) and 2nd in both SSC and UT steals (276). She is one of four players in UT history to be named All-American and one of three players in Tampa history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
