Saint Leo Gets Best of Tampa in Second Meeting
ST. LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa (9-13, 2-10 SSC) women's basketball team dropped its third straight game in a 74-68 loss at Saint Leo University (7-14, 1-10 SSC) on Wednesday evening.
After taking a 35-33 lead to the break, the Spartans allowed Saint Leo to shoot at a 52 percent clip with four second-half 3-pointers. UT also committed 11 turnovers in the second half.
Illyssa Vivo led Tampa with 20 points as Jaleesa Harmon tallied 17. Also scoring double digits for UT were Moriah Hodge and Britny Taylor with 14 and 11 respectively. Taylor set a new career-high as the freshman hit a pair of 3-pointers off the bench.
The game was a follow-up to the season's initial matchup, a 61-30 Tampa victory on Jan. 4. In that game, UT head coach Tom Jessee and his wife, Nikki Jessee, made history as the first NCAA husband and wife to compete against each other as head coaches.
Tampa is back on the road this weekend as it travels to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to face Nova Southeastern University on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Live stats and a webcast are available through TampaSpartans.com.
