
Spartans Keep Win Streak Alive to Start West-Coast Swing
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Playing at the UCSD Tournament, hosted by the University of California in San Diego, the University of Tampa (5-0) women's basketball team kept its perfect record intact with a 62-49 win over California State University in San Bernardino (1-1).
The Spartans rebounded from an early deficit and went on a 10-0 run after trailing 16-13 with 12:00 on the clock in the first half. Tampa would never trail again and led by as many as 12 in the opening half before taking a 35-28 advantage to the half.
The Coyotes were unable to crack the Spartans in the second half, as UT led by as many as 22 points in the final half as the lead was never less than nine points.
Moriah Hodge led a group of three Spartans who scored in double figures as the senior forward notched 16 points. Shamika Williams added 14 as Illyssa Vivo tallied 10.
Williams also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds from her point guard spot while Vivo had seven assists and two steals.
UT outrebounded the Coyotes by a 44-31 margin while also outshooting their opponent by a 45.3 to 31.7 percent clip.
The Spartans conclude their West-coast swing on Saturday, facing host University of California in San Diego at 10 p.m., Eastern time.
