
Spartans Battle Past Lynn for SSC Victory
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 10 University of Tampa (11-1, 2-1 SSC) women's basketball team went on the road and came away with a 57-52 victory over Lynn University (9-4, 2-2 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference affair.
After trailing by a slim 30-27 margin at the half, the final half proved to just as even for the majority as the game featured a total of 13 ties.
Tampa pulled away after a 42-42 tie and 6:44 showing on the clock as the Spartans scored five unanswered points to go up by five. Shamika Williams added a clutch 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining, stretching the lead to six for Tampa and putting the game out of reach for the home court Fighting Knights.
Sadie Oyer scored a career high 18 points as the junior center was 8-for-9 from the floor. Williams secured her first double-double as a Spartan as the guard scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
The teams shot nearly identical, with UT at 36.5 and LU at 36.8 percent for the game. Tampa won the battle of the boards, holding a decisive 46-31 advantage.
Following a pair of SSC road contests, Tampa returns home to the Martinez Center to face Saint Leo University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The contest will feature the lone married head coaching duo in collegiate athletics as Tampa head coach Tom Jessee will coach against his wife and Saint Leo leader Nikki Jessee.
