
Saint Leo Bests No. 15 Tampa in SSC Matchup
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 15 University of Tampa (11-2, 2-2 SSC) women's basketball team suffered a 64-44 loss to Saint Leo University (8-7, 3-2 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference matchup at the Martinez Center between the lone married head coaching opponents in NCAA sports.
The victory went down as the first Saint Leo win in Tampa since the 2002-03 season, when the Lions topped UT by a 61-59 score.
Saint Leo scored the first 16 points of the game and built a 25-point lead to take to the half. The Lions would lead by as many as 27 points as the closest the Spartans got to the lead was 14-points in the second half.
Moriah Hodge led Tampa with 13 points as Juliana Cavallaro netted 10 points. The Spartans shot just 29.8 percent from the field, including a 2-for-18 showing from 3-point range. SLU also held a decisive advantage on the boards with a 43-26 differential.
