Big First Half Propels Spartans to Home Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (14-6, 4-6 SSC) women's basketball team had no problems with Lynn University (14-7, 7-4 SSC) as the Spartans came away with a 64-43 Sunshine State Conference victory.
The Spartans scored the first 10 points and continued the momentum to take a 33-13 lead to the half. Tampa would extend its lead to as many as 30 points in the second half as Lynn trailed by 20-plus points for the final 11:34.
Greta Bartkute earned her first start of the season and responded with a team-high 14 points. 12 of her 14 points came in the first half as she scored the first seven points of the game. She also connected on 2-of-2 attempts from 3-point range and led the team with eight rebounds.
Juliana Cavallaro came off the bench to score 13 points as Keke Jones recorded a team-leading three assists off the bench.
Tampa outscored the Fighting Knights 32-10 in the paint and also outshot its opponent by a 45.1 to 25 percent clip. The battle of the boards was also lopsided in UT's favor as it grabbed 46 rebounds compared to 28 for Lynn.
Tampa is back at home on Wednesday as it welcomes Eckerd College to the Martinez Center for a 5:30 p.m., contest. Live stats and video will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
