Women’s Basketball Drops Conference Game to Tritons
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team dropped a 68-46 contest to Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd College. The Spartans fall to 14-7 on the season (4-7 SSC) while the Tritons improve to 10-10 with a 6-6 conference record.
Freshman Juliana Cavallaro led the Spartans with 14 points alongside classmate Angela Alvarez, who collected five rebounds for the home team. The junior duo of Illyssa Vivo and Sadie Oyer each recorded seven points to round out the Tampa offense.
UT began the game with strong opening play as the home squad started with a 9-2 lead in the first six minutes of play. The Tritons put together a solid run to even the contest at 14-14 with less than 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Eckerd outscored the Spartans in the final minutes of the first period 24-7 as Tampa exited the first half on the wrong side of a 38-21 deficit.
Eckerd tallied seven unanswered points to continue their torrid first half play. The visiting Tritons would not surrender their lead and ended with a final score of 68-46.
The Spartans head to Ft. Lauderdale for a weekend game against Nova Southeastern University. The Saturday matinee is set for a 2 p.m. start. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
