.Spartans Conclude Perfect Weekend With Win Over Georgia College

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 14 University of Tampa
women's basketball team (2-0) defeated Georgia College (0-2)
Saturday afternoon by a final score of 60-38 thanks to a strong
second half.
The first half was a gridlock between the Spartans and the
Bobcats. Juliana Cavallaro would give Tampa their biggest lead of
the half with a go-ahead layup, giving UT a 32-24 lead. The
Spartans bench would come up big attributing with 15 points in the
first half.
Tampa displayed tenacious defense in the second half forcing
Georgia college to shoot 17 percent from the field. Their terrific
play on defense allowed them to go on an 18-0 run. Candace Martino
would seal the victory with a free-throw in the final minute of the
game. The Spartans held the Bobcats to only 12 points in the second
half.
Juliana Cavallaro led Tampa in scoring with 16 points, 2-2
from 3-point range and eight rebounds. Ellen Nurmi also contributed
with 12 points.
Aisha Rodney notched 10 points and six rebounds of the bench.
Vanessa Sylvain also contributed to score seven points for the
Spartans. Taylor McVey held down the paint grabbing a team-high
nine rebounds. Tampa's bench went on to outscore Georgia College's
bench 22-8.
Tampa will look for their third straight win on the road
versus Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday at 2 p.m. Live stats will be
