Tampa Bounces Back With Win Over Saint Martin’s

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The University of Tampa
(5-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season as they
defeated Saint Martin's University (2-4) by a final score of
72-59.
The first half was a back and forth battle, as the half
featured four ties and eight lead changes. In the final 5:44 of the
half, Tampa went on a 11-2 run to give them the 35-29 advantage.
Tampa shot 55.2 percent (16-29) from the field, and held the Saints
to 41.9 percent (13-31).
Junior Ellen Nurmi led the way for the Spartans in the first
half, as she went 5-7 from the field on her way to 11
points.
Saint Martin's was able to bring the Spartans lead down to two
points in the second half, but the Spartans used a couple of runs
to maintain the lead on the Saints. With 5:35 left in the contest,
the Spartans gained their first double-digit lead, as Nurmi hit a
pair of free throws.
Junior Juliana Cavallaro led the way for Tampa as she put up
26 points, six rebounds, and five rebounds. Nurmi chipped in with
21 points and four rebounds. Senior Aisha Rodney was the third
Spartan in double figures as she added 12 points on the
night.
Tampa will be back in action on Saturday, as they travel down
to Fort Lauderdale to open up conference play against Nova
Southeastern, the game is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
