Buzzer-Beater Sinks Tampa
LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans (7-3) dropped a neutral site contest to the Molloy College Lions (5-5) 59-58 at the Florida Southern Tournament.
The Lions led for most of the contest, as their biggest lead of the game was a 12 point margin at the 12:17 mark in the first half. The Spartans were able to take the lead in the second half of play, when junior Juliana Cavallaro hit a three pointer with 9:00 minutes left on the clock.
The two teams continued to trade baskets down the stretch, as Tampa took a two point lead after Cavallaro hit two free-throws with 3.1 seconds left on the clock. On the inbound play, the Molloy took the ball up the court and a Aliyah McDonald hit a three-pointer as the time expired to lift her team to victory.
Cavallaro led the team with 19 points on the day. Junior Taylor McVey posted eight rebounds for UT.
Tampa will be back in action on January 3, as they host their conference home opener against Lynn University. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
