Eckerd Blows Past Tampa
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa (8-4, 2-1) drops a road conference matchup to the Eckerd College Tritons (10-3, 1-2). The Tritons used a strong first half to propel them to the 55-44 victory.
The Tritons played tenacious defense in the first 20 minutes of play, as they held the Spartans to a 13.6% (3-22) effort from the field. The Spartans also committed 11 turnovers in the first half of play, en route to a 32-10 Eckerd advantage.
UT gained some momentum in the second half, as they outscored EC 34-23 in the half. The Spartans however were not able to overcome the first half deficit, as the Tritons shot 45% as a team.
Senior Aisha Roney lead the way for Tampa with 13 points, while Junior Shanica Baker added 11 points in the loss.
Tampa returns to action Saturday, as they travel to Melbourne to take of Florida Tech. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
