Spartans Fall Short to Tars
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Junior Juliana Cavallaro led the University of Tampa women's basketball team with 19 points despite the hard-fought 63-46 loss to No. 14 Rollins in front of Tars crowd at the Warden Arena.
The Spartans drop to 11-6 overall, 4-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, as the Tars improve to 14-2, 6-1 SSC.
Cavallaro paced the Spartans, earning her 19 points and four rebounds in 34 minutes. Angela Alvarez added six points while posting a team-high nine rebounds in the contest. Both Ellen Nurmi and Aisha Rodney notched six points apiece.
Tampa started off strong maintaining the lead through four minutes of play, however when Rollins' Emmalee Schill and Ashley Losch tallied 17 and 15 points, respectively. Cavallo notched six points in the first half while Alvarez captured five rebounds to keep the defense strong in the half.
The Spartans' offense tied it up in the second half with 8:36 remaining, however the Tars pulled away to finalize the 63-46 margin despite their valiant efforts.
Tampa returns to action on Wednesday, facing Barry in a midweek SSC contest in Maimi Shores, Florida at 5:30 p.m.
