
Tampa Falls to Narrow Defeat
TAMPA, Fla. - Despite tying up the score at 53 with less than one minute remaining, the University of Tampa women's basketball team fell to a narrow 55-53 defeat to Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The Spartans sit at 12-7 overall, 5-4 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Sharks move up to 14-5, 7-2 SSC.
Juliana Cavallaro paced the Spartans, scoring 16 points with four rebounds. Aisha Rodney tallied 12 points, leading the Spartans with seven rebounds. Shanica Baker captured an additional six rebounds.
Sharks' Kayla Wright and Jasmine Wilkins posted 18 and 11 points apiece in their win.
Tampa's momentum took off as Jenny Taptich drained a three-pointer in hopes to take the lead. The Spartans overcame their nine-point deficit in the second half to tie it up. Rodney's perfect 4-4 at the line put the Spartans in position to seal the win; however NSU's Monaye Merritt solidified the final 55-53 decision.
The Spartans hit the court again on Wednesday to take on Lynn in a midweek SSC contest in Boca Raton, Florida at 5:30 p.m.
