Spartans Slay Fighting Knights
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Tampa traveled down to Boca Raton for a mid-week battle with the Lynn University Fighting Knights. The Spartans ran away with a 76-45 victory.
The victory improves UT to 13-7 overall, and 6-4 in Sunshine State Conference play. The loss drops LU to 7-12, and 1-9 in SSC play. The victory also gives Tampa a season sweep of the Knights.
Junior Juliana Cavallaro led the way for Tampa, as she collected 24 points on the night for the Spartans. She also added eight rebounds and three assists.
Senior Aisha Rodney chimed in with 15 points and rebounds. Sophomore Candace Martino led Tampa, as she dished out six assists on the night.
The Spartans used an overall team effort in the first half, as they went into the break with a 35-14 lead. The 14 points allowed is the least amount of points in that the UT defense has given up all season in a single half. Tampa held Lynn to 6-34 (17.6%) from the field, while shooting 13-30 (43.3%) in the first half.
Tampa used a 26-55 (47.3%) effort from the field, while shooting 8 of 20 (40%) from three-point range. Overall, Lynn was held to 16 of 64 (25%) from the field, including 1 of 14 (7.1%) from beyond the arc.
UT will be back at home Saturday, as they square off against the Florida Tech Panthers at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
