Spartans Drop Regional Contest To Bulldogs

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team (1-1) fell to the Union University Bulldogs (2-0) by a score of 59-56. This game wrapped up the Spartan Challenge Tournament where Tampa finished 1-1 on the weekend.
In the first half, play stayed even and consistent with the Spartans outscoring the Busters 28-26. The Spartans went 12 of 31 from the field, converting three three-point field goals. The Busters went 11 of 33 from the field, scoring on four three-point field goals. Taylor McVey led the Spartans offensively in the first half with nine points and three rebounds.
In the second half, play continued to be neck-and-neck between the Spartans and Busters, with the Busters outscoring the Spartans 33-32. The Spartans finished shooting 19 of 52 from the field, cashing in six three-point field goals. The Busters finished shooting 22 of 62, converting five three-point field goals. The game came down to the final shot with the Spartans trailing by two and the chance to tie the game or take the lead, but were unable to convert.
Juliana Cavallaro led the Spartans in scoring with 12 points in 34 minutes of action. Elena De Alfredo also played a key role in the Spartans offensive production, scoring eight points and dishing out six assists in 36 minutes of play. Taylor McVey led the Spartan bigs with 11 points and four rebounds.
Tampa will be back in action on Wednesday, November 18th when they face off against the Florida Tech Panthers at home. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m in the Bob Martinez Center and is the first Sunshine State Conference double-header of the season, featuring action from both the men and women's teams for the Spartans.
