
Spartans Fall To Panthers In SSC Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans women's basketball team (1-2) fell to the Florida Tech Panthers (2-0) by a score of 68-60 on Wednesday night. This was the Spartans first SSC game of the season.
In the first half, play stayed consistent with the Panthers outscoring the Spartans 28-25. The Spartans went 9 of 19 from the field, scoring on three three-point field goals.
The Panthers went 12 for 39 from the field, converting one three-point field goal. Elena De Alfredo led the Spartans offensively in the first half with nine points and two assists.
In the second half, play stayed tight between the Spartans and the Panthers, with the Panthers coming out on top 68-60. The Spartans completed 14 of 29 from the field, and cashed in on three three-point field goals. The Panthers finished 13 of 27 from the field, and scored two three-point field goals.
The game stayed neck-and-neck down to the last minute with the Spartans down by three with a chance to tie it up, but were unsuccessful.
Elena de Alfredo led the Spartans in scoring with 12 points in 28 minutes of floor time. Juliana Cavallaro also played a vital role for the Spartans offensively and defensively, scoring 10 points and racking up five rebounds in 36 minutes of play.
Taylor McVey led the Spartan bigs, scoring eight points and collecting eight rebounds.
Tampa will be back in action on Saturday, November 12th when they face off against the Rollins College Tars. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. at Rollins College. This will be the Spartans first SSC road game.
