
Sailfish Storm Past Spartans in South Region Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team (13-11) was defeated by the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish (11-12) by a final score of 67-61 on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Martinez Center.
In the first half of action, the Spartans dominated play from the start, but with defensive woes and being on the wrong end of a 20-0 run, found themselves trailing 36-33. Tampa shot 13-of-32, converting on six of an attempted 13 3-point field goals.
Palm Beach Atlantic finished the half shooting 15-for-31, cashing in on three of an attempted eight three-point field goals. Juliana Cavallaro led the Spartans with nine points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Elena de Alfredo led Tampa is assists with five in the first half.
In the second half of play, the Sailfish built off their momentum and led the Spartans the entire way, outscoring them 31-28. Tampa finished shooting 23-of-57, cashing in on 10 3-point field goals. PBA went 29-of-61 from the field, converting on four three-point field goals. Juliana Cavallaro once again led the Spartans in scoring with 8 points in the second half.
Juliana Cavallaro fueled the Spartans offense with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Candace Martino played the role of floor general for the Spartans, dishing out five assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
Tampa will be back in action Wednesday, February 17, where they'll take on the Florida Southern College Mocs in an SSC matchup. In their first meeting, the Spartans were defeated 71-67 by the Mocs. The game is scheduled to tip off Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., in the Bob Martinez Center at the University of Tampa.
