
Tampa Pummels Lynn on Senior Night
The Spartans sent their six seniors out on a positive.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa's women's basketball team defeated the Lynn University Fighting Knights at home Wednesday night by a final score of 64-44. The Spartans win marked their eighth Sunshine State Conference victory of the season.
The Spartans improve to 15-12 on the season, and 8-7 in league play. Lynn drops to 4-21 on the year with a 2-14 league mark.
In the first half of play, the Spartans came out of the gates hot, opening with a 13-9 lead. Tampa maintained the lead throughout the entire half, leading 33-15 at half.
The Spartans finished the half shooting 14-of-32, netting two 3-point field goals. The Knights only 6-of-27 from the field. Taylor McVey led Tampa in the first half scoring with 10 points.
In second half action, the Spartans kept their pace and never lost their lead, outscoring Lynn 64-44. Tampa finished the game shooting 24-of-54 from the field, converting on four 3-point field goals.
Lynn went 18-53 from the field, also cashing in on four 3-point field goals. Angela Alvarez and Juliana Cavallaro led the Spartans in second half scoring, both contributing with eight points each.
Taylor Mcvey shined on her senior night recording a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Juliana Cavallaro played a vital role in fueling the Spartans offense with 13 points and four assists. Ellen Nurmi also played well on her senior night registering nine points and three assists.
Tampa will be back in action Saturday, February 27, in a crucial SSC match-up on the road against the Saint Leo University Lions. In their last battle, the Spartans defeated the Lions 76-56 in dominating fashion. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2:00 pm at the Marion Bowman Center on the Saint Leo University campus.
