Spartans Defeated By Tritons in Tough Battle
The Spartans battled the Tritons in a mid-week matchup and were unsuccessful as they fell to the Tritons 65-58.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team hosted Eckerd College in a tough conference matchup and fell to the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Quarter | Junior Karma Jeremie tallied the first points of the matchup after an Eckerd foul that put the Spartans up first, 2-0. The Tritons quickly scored thereafter on a layup that would tie the game. Junior Morgan Lumb recorded her first points after a jumper assisted by senior Jenny Horvatinovic. Jeremie struck again on a layup that was matched with a three pointer by the Tritons. The Spartans continued to go basket-for-basket with the Tritons as the first quarter ended with a score of 19-17, Eckerd advantage.
2nd Quarter | The Tritons started to pull away in the second quarter as they led by as many as eight points with seven minutes left in the quarter. Jeremie layed one in and was followed by junior Faith Sanders who tallied a layup of her own. The Tritons offense was dominant and continued to score unanswered baskets as they led by as many as 12 points heading into half time.
3rd Quarter | The Tritons were on the board first coming out of halftime as they put in a layup. Horvatinovic retailiated with a deep three pointer that would help close in on the Tritons 14 point lead. After a layup midway through the quarter from Jeremie, Horvatinovic and senior Elena de Alfredo recorded back-to-back three pointers that would prove momentus for the Spartans. A layup from Sanders would end the third quarter at a score of 51-46, Spartans closing the gap with the Tritons.
4th Quarter | Horvatinovic started the final quarter off for the Spartans with a layup assisted by Lumb. A layup from Lumb would tie the game at 53-53 with just under five minutes left in the game. A jumper from Jeremie gave the Spartans their first lead since the first quarter. Both teams remained scoreless for two minutes until the Tritons tied up the game on a layup and took the lead after the Spartans picked up a foul. The Tritons picked up a foul that sent Lumb to the free throw line and made one, tying the score 56-56. The Spartans fought to take the lead but the Tritons held on for the win, 65-58.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Jeremie led all Spartans with 19 points and eight rebounds.
- Horvatinovic was the second leading point scorer with 17.
- As a team, the Spartans shot 48.9 percent from the field
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Jeremie tied her single-game high of 19 points.
