Tampa Women's Basketball Adds Kayla Bonilla
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa head women's basketball coach Tom Jessee has announced the addition of Kayla Bonilla, who will finish her eligibility with the Spartans after playing four seasons at Valdosta State University.
Bonilla brings a wealth of college basketball experience, playing 112 career games for the Blazers with 98 starts. She averaged double-figure scoring totals in three of four seasons, including 14.0 in 2020-21 after averaging 16.7 as a junior. Her 1,348 career points placed her 11th on the all-time scoring list for Valdosta State.
She also totaled 349 career assists and 399 steals at Valdosta State. She shot 40.7 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from 3-point range while leading Valdosta State to an 18-4 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior. Overall, the Blazers were 80-34 during Bonilla's career.
Bonilla was recently named a first-team all-Gulf South Conference - East performer after being second-team all-GSC as a junior.
She will enroll at the University of Tampa in the fall of 2021, and become immediately eligible for the 2021-22 season with the Spartans.
