Aliyah Abney Named SSC Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the second consecutive week, a University of Tampa women's basketball standout has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week. Aliyah Abney is this week's recipient following a pair of performances over the weekend.
Abney earns Player of the Week honors after leading Tampa in two victories at the Tampa Classic. The guard from Rochester, New York, opened the event with 15 points and three steals in a 71-51 win over West Alabama. She followed with 26 points and four steals as UT claimed a 77-67 victory against No. 19 Union. Abney scored 41 points by shooting 65% from the field (17-26), 75% from the free-throw line (6-8), and 17% from behind the arc (1-6). She provided her team with 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game while playing 62 minutes total.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of November 8 - 14, 2021. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
