Spartans Defeat the Fighting Knights in SSC Weekend Showdown
Boca Raton, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team won a conference matchup on the road against Lynn University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter: Lashayla Wright-Ponder opened the scoring for the game on the Spartans' first possession. The Spartans defense was put to the test early by the Tritons. About halfway through the first half, the Spartans were trailing by three points. Kayla Bonilla tied the game with about four and a half minutes left in the quarter. Both teams were playing very well, each putting up points on their time with the ball. The first quarter was a close one, that got closed out with a Spartan score by Dori Nagy. || Score: 15-15 Tie
Second Quarter: The second quarter began similarly to the first, with both teams battling to score points.The Spartans defense continued its excellent play in the second quarter, holding the Tritons scoreless for over four minutes. Nagy broke the scoring drought for the Spartans three minutes into the second quarter. The Spartans offense found their grove in this quarter, and kept their scoring going. The Spartans outstanding play on both sides of the ball proved too much for the Tritons in the first half of the game. || Score: 26-19- Tampa
Third Quarter: Melijah Sullivan opened up the scoring in the third quarter. The teams continued to battle in the second half of the game, with the Spartans leading by 10 points four minutes into the quarter. With just over four and a half minutes to go, the Tritons were closing in on the Spartans' lead. The Spartans defense tightened up within the last two minutes of the quarter, giving the offensive play a spark. The Spartans ended the quarter by scoring 12 straight points. II Score 47-36 Tampa
Fourth Quarter: The fourth quarter began similarly to the first three, with both teams playing great defense. The Spartans offense continued rolling in the last 10 minutes of play, scoring often in the quarter. With just under five minutes left to play, the Spartans had a 12-point lead over the Tritons. Ultimately, the Spartans excellent play on both sides of the ball proved too much for the Tritons to handle. II Final: 64-47 Tampa
