TAMPA, Fla. - Aliyah Abney has been recognized as a WBCA Division II Women's Basketball Honorable Mention All-American following a standout senior season for the Sunshine State Conference regular-season and tournament champions.
Abney, a senior guard from Rochester, N.Y., was a mainstay in the lineup for the 29-6 Spartans, leading the team to a program-record in victories in a season. A second-team all-SSC selection, Abney was also a two-time SSC Player of the Week in 2021-22.
She led all Spartans in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game. Abney registered double figures in 23 games this season, including the final seven for the Spartans. Among her top performances included seven 20-plus scoring efforts. She also surpassed the 1,000 point milestone in her collegiate career.
Abney becomes the eighth player in UT women's basketball history to be named an All-American and the first since Dori Nagy in 2020.
