HOW IT HAPPENED
1st QUARTER
The afternoon matchup between the conference foes would begin with the Spartans controlling the tip. The Buccaneers opened the scoring, but Melijah Sullivan answered right back. Senior Mya Giusto netted back to back three point shots to put the Spartans in the lead by five points. The Spartan defense held Barry scoreless for just over two minutes, while the offense went on a 15-2 run. With four minutes left in the first, the Buccaneers were forced to call their first timeout, down 15-4. Barry cut into the Tampa lead late in the quarter, but the Spartans would hold on to the 18-12 lead headed into the second. | Score: 18-12 Tampa
2nd QUARTER
The second quarter opened with great defensive play by both teams. The Buccaneers would break the scoring drought just under two minutes into the quarter. Barry cut the Tampa lead to two points after scoring once again, making it 18-16. With five minutes left in the half, Barry took their second lead of the game after a three point shot. Sullivan then tied the game off a free throw, getting the Spartans back into the swing of things. The scoring continued to go back and forth between the teams. Ultimately, the Spartans would go into the half with the lead. | Score: 29-27 Tampa
3rd QUARTER
The second half opened up with Audrey Ramsey netting a three pointer. Barry responded, keeping the game within one point. Tampa built their lead to four points, after Sydney Kin went 2-2 on her free throws. The game would continue to go both ways, with the teams proving to be evenly matched. With just under two minutes left in the quarter, the Spartans had a 48-44 lead over the Buccaneers. With a late three point shot, Barry cut the Tampa lead to one point. Ramsey built the Spartan lead back to two headed into the half off of a free throw. | Score: 50-47 Tampa
4th QUARTER
The last 10 minutes began with Kin netting a layup to build the Spartan lead to five points. The Buccaneers had an answer of their own, cutting the Tampa lead to one point once again. With just over six minutes left in the game, Barry took a two point lead over the Spartans. Sullivan netted another free throw to get the Spartans within four points of the Buccaneer lead. Sullivan was fouled and sent to the line again, where she went 2-2 and got the Spartans within two. A late three pointer by Giusto got Tampa within one, but the Buccaneers answered and built their lead back to three. Kin tied the game at 67 off a free throw with one minute left to play. This back and forth matchup would need extra time to decide the winner. | Score: 67-67 Tie
OVERTIME
The extra five minutes to decide the match would open with Sullivan netting a shot after two and a half minutes of scoreless play. With a little over a minute left to play, the Buccaneers tied the game at 69. Ramsey was fouled and sent to the line, where she went 2-2 to put the Spartans back in the lead by two points. Sarah Jones netted a three point shot to put the game away for Tampa. | Score: 75-69 Tampa
