No. 3 Spartans Defeat Florida Southern at Home

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st QUARTER

The game started with Tampa beginning the scoring after Mya Giusto went 1-2 from the free throw line. A block from Sydney Kin turns into a transition bucket from Audrey Ramsey to Sarah Jones. Florida Southern responded to this series of shots with a three pointer followed by a layup. Florida Southern then went on a 6-0 run putting pressure on Tampa's offense to respond. A few miscalculations from Tampa's offense put Florida Southern in good position to continue their momentum. A coast to coast layup from Melijah Sullivan breaks Florida Southern's run and put Tampa within one point of regaining their lead. A spin around layup from Sullivan then puts Tampa up by one. From here, the energy started flowing resulting in Tampa going on a 11-0 run and ended with a 14-2 run to close out the first quarter. Score: 20-8 (Tampa)

2nd QUARTER

The second quarter started with Florida Southern kicking off the scoring. Another block from Kin turns into an and-one layup for her on the other end, with the assist going to Giusto. Tampa's defense stood strong this quarter forcing Florida Southern into a scoring drought for the first four minutes of the quarter. Out of the media timeout, Tampa experienced a scoring drought but it was broken with a shot from Giusto. After a pair of made free throws from Eleanore Marciszewski closes out the second quarter. Score: 30-17 (Tampa)

3rd QUARTER

The third quarter starts with Florida Southern getting on the board first with a transition layup. An and-one layup from Sullivan puts the first points on the board for Tampa this quarter. From there, Tampa went on a 4-0 run forcing Florida Southern to take a timeout. Florida Southern shoots a three putting them within 10 points of Tampa's lead. After that, both teams experienced a short scoring drought, but Kin ended the drought for Tampa. Tampa ends the quarter on a 10-0 run. Score: 46-28 (Tampa)

4th QUARTER

In the last 10 minutes, a three from Marciszewski puts Tampa on the board early. An and-one shot from Erin Antosh adds on to Tampa's lead as they looked to close out the game. Tampa finished the game going 4 of 4 from the field. Score: 65-44 (Tampa)
