Sydney Kin Named D2CCA South Region Player of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. – The 2023 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's Basketball All-South Region Teams were announced Thursday, March 9.

Sydney Kin, a senior from Carey, Ohio, of University of Tampa was selected as the D2CCA Women's Basketball South Region Player of the Year. She was also named the 2023 Sunshine States Conference Player of the year. Kin is averaging 19.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season. She is shooting 68 percent from the field.

Fellow Spartan Melijah Sullivan also earned a spot on the second team. A 1,000-point career scorer at UT, Sullivan is second on the Spartans in scoring at 14.5 points per game.

Kin, along with Haley Schubert (Lee), Jaclyn Jarnot (West Florida), Shanique Lucas (Union), and Bria Dent (West Alabama) each earned first-team honors.

Ashiala Jackson (Tuskegee), Sofia Person (Eckerd), Melijah Sullivan (Tampa), Maya Price (Eckerd), Madison Frederick (Nova Southeastern), and Zoe Piller (West Florida) each earned second-team honors.

Eight different south region schools had a representative, with Tampa, Eckerd, and West Florida each having two honorees. Four players from the 2023 teams also were D2CCA All-South Region honorees in 2022.

The teams were voted on by the sports information directors in the south region.
