
Tampa Beats Tuskegee to Advance to the Second Round
Tampa, FL. – The University of Tampa Spartans Women's Basketball Team beats Tuskegee to move on to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Final: Tampa Spartans 82, Tuskegee Golden Tigers 64
Records: #1 Tampa 31-1 (19-1 SSC), #8 Tuskegee 26-4 (20-0 SIAC)

All-Time Series: That was the first-ever matchup between Tampa and Tuskegee, with the Spartans coming out on top.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
After a Tuskegee opening basket, Sydney Kin made a layup for Tampa's first basket to tie the game at 2. The Golden Tigers would score four straight. The Spartans then showed why they are a #1 seed, responding with a 17-2 run, six coming from Melijah Sullivan in a little over four minutes. The Tigers would score 3 points to end the half. | Score: 19-11 Tampa
SECOND QUARTER
Tuskegee would then score three points to open up the second quarter. After a Sullivan basket and a Tigers basket, Tampa would score seven straight to expand its lead to 28-16. The Tigers would then cut the Spartan's lead to six with three minutes left to play in the Second Quarter. After Tuskegee cut it to four, Tampa closed the quarter on a 7-0 run. | Score: 37-26 Tampa
THIRD QUARTER
After opening baskets by each team to start the third quarter, Sarah Jones would make a 3-pointer for the Spartans to help Tampa go on a 7-2 run and extend their lead to 17. The Tigers eventually would cut it to 8, going on an 11-2 run. Kin, Sullivan, and Jones wouldn't let the Tigers become any closer going on an 8-0 run to prevail, Tampa's lead backs up to 16. | Score: 61-45 Tampa
FOURTH QUARTER
Tuskegee opened up the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer. However, Tampa's momentum would continue, going on an 8-0 run and taking a twenty-one-point lead. Tuskegee ran out of gas and time and could not return from their deficit. | Score: 82-64 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS;
- Four Spartans scored double figures: Senior Sydney Kin (27), Senior Melijah Sullivan (16), Sophomore Audrey Ramsey (16), and Junior Mya Giusto (11).
- The Spartans shot 92% from the line compared to the Tigers 58%.
- Kin recorded another double-double with 27 points and 16 boards.
BEYOND THE BOX
- The Spartans had 36 points in the paint.
