
Balanced Effort Leads Tampa Women's Basketball to Fifth Straight SSC Title Game
TAMPA, Fla. - The number-two seed University of Tampa women's basketball team earned its fifth straight appearance in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament championship game with a runaway 76-54 victory over visiting Embry-Riddle University on Thursday. The victory marks the 12th straight for UT over the Eagles.
Tampa had an impressive shooting performance throughout the game, with a field goal percentage of 54.7% and a 3-point percentage of 57.9%.
Mya Giusto led Tampa in scoring with 15 points, while Zoe Piller contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
The team's strong defensive effort was evident as they held Embry-Riddle (FL) to just 35.9% shooting from the field.
On the other hand, Embry-Riddle struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 35.9% from the field. Madyson Jean-Louis led the team in scoring with 15 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Tampa's dominant performance.
The win improved Tampa's record to 28-5 while Embry-Riddle fell to 20-9 on the season.
The Spartans will host Eckerd College on Sunday at 1 p.m., as the Spartans look to win their third consecutive SSC tourney title. Overall, UT has won eight conference tournament championships.
